For those of us with worn-out wooden furniture that need a makeover, you can use spray paint for an inexpensive update. We all have outdated furniture around the house – they could have sentimental value but missing a good finish. It is highly satisfying to update these pieces of wood furniture with paint.

SVT or sand, vac and tack is the preparation process. Firstly sand the areas with existing finishing to remove loose finish from the piece. Scuff the entire piece of furniture to provide the surface with a bit of ‘tooth’ for the new primer to adhere to. Next use a shop vac and brush attachment to vacuum away dust. Finally remove the residual dust using a dampened microfiber rag.

- Once your work area and furniture are prepped, spray the piece with bonding premier. Start by spraying the bottom first once you have flipped the furrniutre on its top.
- Start spraying and pressing the nozzle a few inches prior to being over the piece. Now start making long and continuous passes, releasing a few inches after passing the piece. Start and stop in the middle of each furniture piece and this leads to a few drips and lap marks. Overlap the passes 20%-40%.
- Once the primer dries, SVT only when the furniture is rough. Otherwise begin the enameling. The same idea applies – long, continuous passes for an even coverage.
